I was talking to a guy at work today that said, “I had religion shoved down my throat for 20 years, and now I’m just a relaxed Christian. I go to church a couple of times a year, and I pray and read the Bible sometimes.”
He also talked about how his girlfriend’s sister was “reborn” three years ago and is now trying really hard to be good, though she hasn’t seemed to try to stop getting drunk in those three years. He was using this to compare himself, saying that he’s not as bad as her.
I’ve heard many times that people don’t want to follow Jesus, because they had religion “shoved down their throats” as they grew up. I grew up in the church with strict parents who followed the Lord. I look back, and that was a great thing.
I don’t know if I’m asking for advice or just venting. Thoughts are appreciated.
